COMTO Notes from The Hill: Comment Period for Surface Transportation Authorization Bill Extended
COMTO Members Urged to Contact USDOT by Sept. 8th
Washington, DC – The USDOT has extended the deadline to receive public comments on the Surface Transportation Authorization bill. The current Reauthorization bill is set to expire September 30, 2026. COMTO is urging its members to submit their comments via email to the DOT by the new deadline: Monday, September 8, 2025.
In its Request for Information (RFI), the DOT asked for comment from entities that would be impacted by the new bill including, “State, local, and tribal governments; small businesses; consumers; non-governmental organizations; transportation system operators and service providers; and manufacturers and their trade associations.”
According to the Federal Register, “the reauthorization effort will focus on modernizing America’s infrastructure by improving safety, streamlining Federal processes, promoting economic growth, and strengthening partnerships.” Secretary Sean Duffy appeared before Congress on the Surface Reauthorization Bill this spring where he outlined his priorities. You can read more of that coverage in COMTO’s April issue of Notes from The Hill.
The DOT recommends that written comments be as “specific as possible, including identifying any statutory changes necessary to effectuate your idea.” Submissions can be emailed to: [email protected]. Please include the full body of your comments in the text of the electronic message and as an attachment. Click here to learn more about the requirements.
