2024 Year In Review
The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials reflects on a pivotal year of growth for the organization. Thank you to our members across 40 chapters in North America for contributing to this success. In 2024 we celebrated excellence in service of outgoing board members and welcomed those newly appointed, onboarded several new staff members, and added COMTO North Carolina to the family. In fact, our family continues to grow with a record 47% increase in membership and fresh opportunities to showcase member knowledge with our new webinar series, COMTO Member Insights.

COMTO annual events saw record attendance with a sold-out crowd at our 13th annual Celebrating Women Who Move the Nation awards breakfast. In July, nearly 1,000 attendees braved Hurricane Beryl to attend our 53rd National Meeting and Training Conference in Houston, Texas. In the fall, we were #COMTOProud as a record number of members attended our annual View From the Hill and White House Visit.

COMTO’s commitment to ensuring transportation projects put people first and leave a positive impact on their neighborhoods brought us back to St. Paul, MN. There, we continued our support of the 2nd Annual Reconnecting Communities Summit in partnership with AASHTO’s Center for Environmental Excellence. COMTO’s leadership was recognized with the selection to lead a $4.25 Million Thriving Communities program through USDOT. COMTO, in partnership with leading industry partners including AECOM, Accelerator for America, Intelligent Transportation Society of America, The MWDBE Training Academy, Inc., ReConnect Rondo, and Two Degrees will collectively support 16 communities as National Capacity Builders.
COMTO continues to be grounded in ensuring that transportation serves all. This noble mission has guided COMTO for 53 years. We elevate workforce development programs to ensure a highly skilled workforce. We invest in our young people, showing them the endless possibilities of careers in STEM. We educate elected officials on the positive impact of supporting small businesses. We advocate for a transportation industry that supports economic development and reflects the vibrant communities it serves.
As we step into a new year filled with possibilities, where change remains our most familiar constant, let us channel our energy into nurturing the growth and well-being of the curated community we proudly call the COMTO family. An organization where the softest voice is amplified, and all perspectives are valued as they contribute to supporting a transportation industry that serves all.
We are truly excited for the year to come and opportunities to collaborate, expand and partner to move the COMTO mission forward.
Sincerely,
The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials
